Breath of Fire 3
Lovers Quarrel, Part 3
 
As Momo approaches home, she hears splashing, and laughter from the
pond. She runs to the pond, in hopes of seeing Rei, only to find Ryu and
Teepo wrestling around in the water.

"You die blue boy!" Pivots off the side and tackles Ryu, both going
under.

Momo sighs, but quickly clears her mind, she has a bigger task at
hand. She goes inside, and begins packing necessities for the trip she is
soon to embark upon.

As she finishes packing her back, she redresses, wearing her normal
attire. As she closes up her pack and proceeds to exit, she stops and grabs
the blanket, Rei's blanket, and sets off. Ryu and Teepo are still at it, and
both see Momo as she makes her way toward Wyndia again.

Ryu yells out to her. "Momo, where ya going?"

Without looking back, she answers. "Nina will tell you when she gets
back. I wont be back till tomorrow." With those words she walks down the
road on her mission to retrieve her love.
 
 

After another half hour of play, both Brood brothers are now too sore
and too tired to continue. "You and Rei do this every day?"

Teepo nods, ringing the water from his hair. "Yeah, you've just gone
wimp with all the time you spend with Nina."

Ryu grabs Teepo and throws him back in the water. "Shut up, just cause
you don't got a girl..."

Teepo climbs out, and is about to tackle Ryu hard, but Nina trips him
and he falls back in the water. "Dammit! I 'outta be a sea animal, not a
dragon."

Nina hugs Ryu from behind. "He may have gone wimp, but at least he's
my wimp."

Ryu smiles, and Teepo makes a sick face. "How was it at Wyndia?"

"It was fun, but you wont believe this. Rei was there. He was in the
hardware store getting some things. If I wasn't there, Momo would have made
a scene in front of everyone there."

"Made a scene? What are you talking about?" Teepo thinks for a moment,
and finally puts two and two together. "Wait a minute.... Momo and...." His
eyes fly open in disbelief. "Momo's in love with Rei? She must not have good
tastes in men, huh?" Begins to laugh some.

"Teepo, shut up!" Ryu and Nina give some dirty looks to Teepo. "So,
Momo's went after Rei then."

"Oh, you saw her leave?" Nina sits down next to Ryu, takes her boots
off, and dips her feet in the water.

"Uh oh, stink water." Teepo begins to chuckle.

"Teepo, I swear if you don't shut up I will fry your ass in right
here!" Teepo is quick to shut up, for Nina hardly ever uses any profanity.

"Yeah. She kinda looked posessed. She must really love him." Ryu
smiles.

"Well, for as long as I've known Rei, Momo's in for a tough fight to
win." Teepo climbs out, wearing just his pants. "Rei's not an easy one to
win over." He gets his clothes and goes inside.

"I hope that isn't true. She wont be able to take a second rejection."
Nina sighs, and holds Ryu tighter. "Times like this make me feel like I'm
taking you for granted."

He smiles, and kisses her cheek. "No, your not. Nina...."

She looks up in his eyes. "Yeah?"

"Hold your breath..." He falls in the water, holding on to Nina. She
screams and goes under.

"You jerk!" She yells, but with a smile. "I guess it's too late to try
an sruggle hmm?" She splashes him right in his face, and tries to get away.
Ryu gives chase, and grabs her pulling her under. More laughter, more
splashing..... does it ever stop?
 
 

Meanwhile, Momo has made her way to Wyndia again. She debates weather
or not to take a break. After giving it minimal though, she trudges on
towards Mt. Mynerg, muscles sore, panting, and sweating, but it'll all be
worth it in the end, or so she hopes.

"I am so out of shape." She wipes some sweat from her forehead, and
looks up the mountain. The side road had turned into a muddy slope after the
winter storming. "Damn elements." She heaves in a large breath, and makes
her way up the mountain path.

Her bazooka, already in hand, for she knows all of the Nut People who
guard the mountain. Nothing to worry about on a normal day, but in her state
she can't afford to fight much. Suddenly two arrows fly from a nearby bush.
She is quick to dodge, take aim, and fire a shot into the bush. The bush
bursts and the two Nut Archers lay spralled out unconscious.

"I'm not even to the peak yet..." Her words were cut short at the
sight of several Nut Troops, Nut Archers, and Nut Mages. All looked at Momo
like she was easy pickings. "Not good, not good!" She began to cast Inferno,
that handy spell Deis taught her, but it was cut off by a Flare from a Mage.
She screamed at the burn and coiled up.

"No, please..." She couldn't believe it, she was being beaten by lowly
Nut People. She tried again for Inferno, but it was again cut off by a
Flare, and few sword slashes. Luckily her armor sheilded a few hits, but not
all. Her arms and legs got mild cuts, but enough to distract her from the
spell.

"Help me, someone! Please!" She knew no one could hear her. She was
too far from Wyndia or McNiel. If she didn't do something soon, she was a
goner, but the army of Nut People was too much. Any offense she would try
would lead to a gang attack.

"Jolt!" A small burst was heard, and lightning bolts flew from the
sky, striking each Nut Person, rendering them unconscious. There stood Rei,
knives in hand.

Momo, who is now nearly unconscious, looks up at the Woren, and one
word came to her. "How..." Her head dropped, and she was out cold.

"You're damn lucky I needed a trip back to Wyndia, or you woulda been
in worse shape." He picks her up, and carries her to McNiel.
 
 

After several hours, she awakens. It's now early evening. Very
groggily, she sits up, and a damp cloth falls from her forehead. She puts a
hand on her head, and looks around, surveying her surroundings. She was in a
place she had never been before, Rei's house, or more like Rei's new house.
Same spot, same design, just rebuilt. She looks for her stuff, and finds her
bag emptied. She gets up, and looks in the drawers. All of her stuff neatly
folded, and put away, a trait of Rei which he always hid from others.

"Rei? Where are you?" Suddenly, banging is head on the roof. She
quickly runs outside, and looks up. Rei is on the roof, nailing some roof
shingles on. That's why he was at Wyndia, to get supplies. He already had a
lumberjack for wood, Bunyan. He just needed tools.

"Hi Rei." She says with a small blush. Rei turns to look at her, and
smiles.

"Hey." He jumps down. "Good to see you're up. I was hoping you'd be up
for dinner. What are you doing out here?"

Silence for a few moments. "I came looking for you. You're not mad are
you?"

"Well, if that doesn't beat all. Nope, I ain't mad. I was kinda
surprised though. You really musta been tired to get beat up by Nut People,
yeah?"

"Well, after a trip to the Plant, back, to Wyndia, back, then to Mt.
Mynerg, who wouldn't?"

"'Specially little 'ol bunny ladies like you." He smirks and goes
inside.

"So I'm outta shape... at least I'm smart."

"Intellegence doesn't get you everywhere. Oh, I also put your stuff
away while you were asleep." He goes downstairs and into the kitchen. Momo
follows "What do you want to eat?"

"Anything, just as long as it's hot and plentiful."

He laughs and sticks his head out of the kitchen. "I don't mean to
burst you're bubble, but I didn't bring much money, and I spent most of it
on building stuff, so what I got, is what I got." He rears his head back in.
"Unless you wanna go outside and pick some fruit..." The door closes. Momo
went out to... guess what, pick fruit.

"Guess she really is hungry." Goes back to cooking.... well it really
isn't cooking, more like heating dinner.
 
 

After about ten minutes, she returns, carrying several apples, and
berries in her blouse. "I'm back. All I found were these. It get's dark here
fast doesn't it?"

"Yeah. Just put em in that basket on the table. You came back just in
time." Comes out of the kitchen with two plates. Each has two bicuits, and a
load of beans.

"That's all? You weren't lying were you?"

"Hey c'mon. I'm broke, what do you expect? However, I bought the
biggest can, so there is alot more in the pot, and a few more biscuits.
Well, eat up." Hands her a fork, but she's already eating, sopping up the
beans in the biscuit. He chuckles some, and begins to eat his food.
 
 

After dinner, Momo sits eating some of the berries she picked, and
Rei sits peeling one of the apples.

"So, why exactly did you come here? There's gotta be a reason I saved
you on the mountain."

She takes her last bite particularly slow, almost like she doesn't
want to answer. "Well.... I wanted to talk about..... uhh, never mind."

"No, c'mon. What is it? I wont get mad or anything like that."

She bites her lip, and looks at him. "It's about us, together."

He stops peeling and places his knife and apple on the table. "You
came all the way here, for me?"

"I told you before you left. I..." She opens her mouth, but the words
don't come out. "I love you... I've been in love with you for a long time
now."

"Why? I mean, what is it about me you're in love with?" He stand and
takes his vest off. "Is it my body, my fur, my stripes, what? If it's my
personality, you are suffering from a severe head trip."

She stands up, and walks to him. "It's you, the way you are, and act."

"Teepo acts the same way, and you don't love him."

"That's cause Teepo's an ass hole. With you, you're fun, easy going.
Teepo, he always acts like a jerk, no matter what you do."

"That can't be it...."

She begins to blush a deep red. "And... you do have a nice body."

"See, I knew there was something else to it." He takes his vest and
puts it back on. "Momo... I'm not saying I ain't flattered you think of me
this way, but something, deep in my gut tells me, it just wont work."

"Why? Why not? You haven't even tried."

"Look at it this way. You're a rabbit, and I'm a tiger. If we were in
the wild, I'd be hunting you. You get it? We're too different for each
other."

"So? Ryu's a dragon, and Nina's a Wyndian. They're different, and they
love each other. Why can't we?"

He turns and looks down. "I'm not ready to. I would like to, but I
know I'm not ready, and I know I'd completely screw it all up. I'm...
sorry."

She nods, accepting the fact that it's not gonna happen. "Well.... all
you need to do it is say, 'Momo, I love you too,' walk up, hold me, kiss me,
hell even rip off my clothes and have your way with me, and I'll accept you.
But it appears you don't want to." She is trying her best to choke back
tears. "I... I'm gonna leave now." She wipes away on coming tears as she
opens the door.

~No...~

Suddenly, and large orange fur covered arm flies by Momo's face, shuts
the door, and locks it. He places his hand on her shoulder, and turns her
around.

"Rei?"

He stands there, no expression. He then wraps his arms around her and
smiles. "Fuck it... fuck it all."

This surprises the hell out of her. "But wh-"

Her words are cut off by two furry lips met to hers. She closes her
eyes, holds him, and goes with the flow.

When they break the kiss, she rests her head in his chest, eyes
closed, tears of happiness drip onto the ground. "You changed your mind?"

"Yeah. I'm 23 years old. If I'm not ready now, when the hell will I
be? Plus... if we're different. Different, usually means opposite. Opposites
attract, right?"

"Thank god they do." She then feels a furry hand begin to undo her
clothes. "What are you doing?"

"That 'rip my clothes off and have your way with me' speech sounds
tempting right now."

She smiles, and helps him. She begins to strip him down too. "Wait."
She pushes him upstairs, and stands, his back facing the bed. She then
roughly pushes him down on it, and growls.

"Oh baby...." He smiles, and growls, showing her how it's done.

Over the course of the night, their love making is intense, moans and
cries fill the woods, and the birth of two new lovers, begins.
